Fireroad Ventures is pleased to announce its investment in Virnika, an agentic OS for independent and multi-unit restaurant operators.

Based in the Triangle region of North Carolina, Virnika is building toward a future where every repetitive, administrative, and operational task in a restaurant is handled by a coordinated team of AI agents: answering phones, managing reviews, analyzing performance, scheduling staff, and ultimately acting as an AI-powered general manager that never sleeps, never quits, and never needs retraining. The company's thesis is simple. Humans should focus on hospitality; agents can handle everything else.

"We want to fundamentally change what it means to operate a restaurant," said Charles Douthitt, CEO and Co-founder of Virnika. "Our goal is to make it as
easy to own 15 locations as it is to own 2. Every hour a great employee spends on the phone taking a repeat order or answering the same question about hours is an hour they're not spending with a guest. We're building the infrastructure that gives that time back."

The problem Virnika addresses is structural. Restaurants in the pizza, QSR, and fast-casual segments operate with the complexity of a mid-sized enterprise but without the support infrastructure of a national chain, and independent operators in the 5-to-50 location range feel that gap most acutely. They spend more than $10 billion annually on labor for repetitive, low-value tasks. They face chronic staffing shortages and turnover rates that mean institutional knowledge walks out the door with every departing employee. And they rely on fragmented, legacy technology stacks that don't talk to each other.

Virnika's platform deploys specialized AI agents across the full operational surface of a restaurant. The company's first agent, Penny, autonomously handles inbound phone calls: taking orders, answering questions, upselling, and injecting orders directly into the POS, across multiple simultaneous calls, in multiple languages, with perfect menu recall. An analytics agent called Adam surfaces operational insights from real call data. A catering agent handles the distinct workflows of large-order and event business. The roadmap extends from there to agents for reviews, scheduling, and interviewing, all rolling up into an AI general manager that orchestrates the full stack.

The company has already handled over 100,000 calls across 22 brands and 69 locations, processing more than $100,000 in orders.

"What excites us about Virnika isn't any single agent. It's the platform they're building and the team building it," said Christy Johnson, Partner at Fireroad Ventures. The team building Virnika is dynamic on both the technical and go-to-market sides: Charles has already scaled in food delivery, the last generation of innovation in food service and Cameron has spent a decade earning the trust of operators in a relationship-driven industry. On the technical side, Logan brings PhD-level AI expertise to a domain that is hungry for it and CTO David Rasch has been building scalable products for decades.

Together, the team has a clear advantage and compelling vision: they're not building a phone bot, they're building the AI infrastructure layer for the independent restaurant. Virnika's architecture is designed for this platform ambition. The company was the first AI voice solution integrated with Deliverect, a leading POS middleware provider, enabling deep integrations with major systems including Toast, Square, and Clover. Each new agent deployed deepens the platform's hold on restaurant operations, building institutional knowledge that generic competitors can't easily replicate.
